Ok, so i said i was going to talk about the HBK/Cena feud and about Umaga...guess what? This is my column and i do what i want!
I prefer talking about the Fatal Four Way going down at Backlash.
I was positively surprised when i heard about this match, it has three good wrestlers and an average one. Let me dissect this for you:
We have the champion, Cena. He's the one i called average, why? Because he has good mic skills and some wrestling ability, i give him that, up to a point. But the main flaw about Cena is the same as many wreslters and young wrestlers today: he doesn't sell good. Oh he sells T-shirts allright you tell me. No i'm talking about selling the hits he gets, it seems today's wrestlers want to seem invencible, and that's horrible.
Cena, in case you haven't noticed is undefeated in Wrestlemanias, 4-0, after beating the Big Show, JBL, Triple H and HBK, he almost headlined three Wrestlemanias in a row. I did the math, he was and is champion for more than a thousand days, very close to three years, and here's a shocker: he's been on WWE for only five years, FIVE!! I think WWE needs a change and is probably thinking about a change in champions, sure he's controversial, blah,blah,blah...we are tired of seeing his face! The obvious thing here is: he has to lose matches, for some credibility at least.
Then we move on to Shawn Michaels...a man that can win the WWE title, but won't win it. Why not? Because that would bring the DX thing and Triple H, and we saw that already, plus he's almost 42 and the back problems are killing him. Sorry but i won't comment more about HBK, he has it but i see different things for him.
Now we get to the men i want to talk about, let's go with Orton first.
Randy Orton is the youngest of the group, with only 27 years old. He's also the guy with fewer acomplishments: an Intercontinental title reign that was impressive, a World title reign that could and should have been longer, taking in consideration he defeated Chris Benoit, and a Tag Team reign. One thing that truly suprises me is the lack of chances he gets to shine: 2 for the world title since the 2005 Royal Rumble!! He had a nice feud against the Undertaker and overall is one of the greatest talents WWE has to offer. I'm not sure about Orton's role in this match, but i'll talk about it later in this column. One thing's for certain: he has the profile, the skills, charisma, and is one good heel character.
And then we move to Edge...he's the one i expect to win. Edge is the main heel on the company right now, giving him a long title reign would be the way to consolidate this. I think he's the next Triple H, but there's only one thing wrong about him...What? The fact that he's already 33 years old. And Triple H is 37. He was involved in great storylines, he feuded with Benoit and HBK, among others. He won the Intercontinental title for 5 times, the tag team belts for 12 times, and the WWE title for 2 times. However we already saw him feud with Cena...and it would get a little boring. Right now he's the man.
So how will this match go down? It's very difficult to say. But i'll try to mess with your heads a little more.
Edge could win and probably will win, he's in the poster for the PPV with that sneaky look. But to feud with Cena once more? He already did that for wayyy to much time. But at the same time he gets the heat from the fans, making him the major heel right now. So i guess threre's a point in making him win AND making him lose.
Randy Orton's the guy that deserves a push and a title reign with the big boys, he had close to no chances and is younger than Edge with a possibility of even surpassing him. So there's a chance of winning, but the main thing is that right now he only gets heat from standing with Edge for my dismay. He could lose then.
HBK has been flagging a new rebirth, and seems to haven't lost his touch. It's been a while since we see Shawn with an actual title and it could be great. Plus i'm not thinking they went for all that trouble putting him to close winning the Royal Rumble for nothing. But i'm guessing that he's to old for carrying a title again taking in consideration that his job was putting guys over, and giving them a push. So from that point on he can win or lose.
And then there's Cena, i won't talk much about him now. He can win and solidify his status as champion, or he could lose and it would be nice a change of pace.
Taking in consideration all these writing i expect either Orton, who's being terribly underused, or Edge to win this one. Alltough a heel HBK holding the title even if it was for a short time would be great to then give the title to either Edge or Orton. Even an alliance cold be forged, he guess i'm dreaming to much, forget my this alliance thingy.
On a side note i feel bad about not talking about Umaga as i promised...but i think he's the only monster these few years to be awarded an individual title...there has been a lot of build-up in Umaga's character, even thoe he lost against Cena and Lashley, and that's highly unusual. Just tought about giving this little thing about Umaga.
Expect next Thursday cmPunk joining the New Breed, the Hardys, and at some point...the Smackdown Tag Team division!!
PS: I'm sorry about the quality of this week's column, i know i could write more, and i know you expected more. But i'm very tired this week as i have a lot of stuff in my mind.
Tell me what you think about this week's column, reviews are allways great, dont' care if they are good or bad, it allows improvement!
