I sit here in disgust writing about the current state of WWE and wrestling in general.
Just the other day i was searching youtube for XPW's Cold Day in Hell, just felt curious about the event and thought it would be worth seeing it, i didn't. Instead i watched a match between Major Gunns and Miss Han**ck that started the infamous pregnancy angle on WCW. Remember those girls? Yeah right, i'm digressing.
Anyways, from there i went on wikipedia and started watching the profiles of former ECW wrestlers...everybody on their forties. And from that moment i just realised i couldn't watch WWE anymore. I haven't seen the show from quite some time, i still saw a segment or 2 that interested me, but now i've had truly enough.
Long gone are the days wrestling was interesting to see. Why was it interesting? Because of the competition. You had ECW, WWF, WCW going at it, you saw creative stuff, you saw ridiculous stuff, you would see those incredible moments that make you think of them when you think about wrestling today. You can bash WCW all you want but damnit they tried their way, at that way atracted some fans. You can say ECW was indeed over extreme, but it had a cult following and was probably the best company that ever existed. You had OMEGA wrestling run by the Hardy's, you had the sleazy XPW, you had and still have the ultra violent CZW. All those promotions filled a certain niche of wrestling fans...
And then you had WWF.
WWF and Vince sure knew what they were doing, because when you think about it no company was more mainstream, even with the attitude era, than WWF. Think about it. Everybody should know that WWF had almost no original, home breed, talent. HHH began in WCW, several people began there or on ECW, or picked themselves up in those 2 companies. I'm not saying their talent was crap, but hell Vince managed to get alot of great guys on deals. How? Well that's simple, he picked those guys up.
If you didn't feel ECW could have taken a bigger role on the wars, then you are delusional, and if you think WWF would have made it on their own without any outside help then you're crazy too. But they made it, and destroyed two great companies in the process.
ECW is self-explanatory i believe. But WCW should deserve more credit, after all they had huge star power, they had a few good ideas, sure they had alot of bad ideas but that's not the point, without competition the wrestling world is stale.
Years before OMEGA was shut down by the Hardys, years after XPW imploded.
By gawd (lol) WCW was cartoonish but if they still existed i would watch their product, sure they may have originated XPW sleazy attitude, sure the main event featured the finger poke of doom, but i would watch them over WWE, because anything beats WWE these days.
Are the fans stupid? Maybe. Is there a lack of information? Sure. Is it necessary? Oh hell yeah! Why? Because should there be alot of it RoH would be out of business just like that.
The only thing we have right now that is mainstream is WWE and TNA. Oh joy, now i can throw up.
Why? TNA is a crappy copy of WCW (yeah Russo, yeah), great talent, crappy product, only WCW had more name valued wrestlers. I am sick of what they are doing with their guys and mark my words, as soon as RoH improves some more i believe TNA is going to implode from within. Guys like Angle and Booker are seen from my point of view as guys WWE does not want so TNA can have them, WWE guys on TNA will allways be seen as guys that weren't needed or didn't quite make it and that's the hard, cold reality. You have the cartoonish look that WCW presented and WWF ran away from...and that won't help them get towards the number one spot. I'm gonna stop now, there would be just too much to write.
And now WWE. I remember the days i lived the stuff that was on the shows, i recognized that Trish Stratus was the best ever in the world for example, i felt i was witnessing the best wrestling action ever. Boy was i wrong. Especially with Trish.
Shimmer women's wrestling came to my attention some time ago when i was looking for women's wrestling on youtube, i saw Megumi Kudo in action and i thought that was amazing so i searched and searched and found it: amazing! I recomend you watch some of their stuff because you won't find any better. After that Trish seemed amateurish.
After watching japanese matches, WWE wrestlers seemed weaklings and after watching RoH the major corporation talent base seemed to be lacking.
My perspective changed alot, i watch and read alot of stuff about wrestling, and i mean alot of stuff.
And so it really bugs me this entire situation, because you have one major promotion on America that dictates what people see and what talent should be hired and awarded, and that not only happens to americans but with people around the world, more than bugging me, it sickens me to the core because i truly appreciate wrestling and some people will never get the credit they deserve.
A couple of concrete things made me write this: the fact that the female and overall talent is being so misused, i've seen Katie Lea in action and Nattie and they are so much better than what they are showing, thus proving the overall talent doesn't work as hard as they should due to comodities while others bust their butts to get paid almost jack to support their families.
And the fact people don't get recognition they deserve based on the whims of a small bunch of jackas**s.
This happened due to Mark Henry events due to the recent storylines. Mark deserves a belt due to his loyalty to the company, bash all you want, but it's true. But the ECW title?! And leaving Tommy Dreamer to job forever?! Give me a break. Dreamer is probably the most respectfull man in the company that is plagued with egomaniacs and he is treated like garbage, like a disease, and that is not right. And what about Terry Funk? Will he ever get inducted in the Hall of Fame? If not that just proves how WWE is truly a piece of garbage. If i were to number the amount of talent that should have been given recognition or a better direction, i would never leave this seat. And now they are all going towards oblivion, in 5 or 10 years nobody is going to remember people that were or had the potential to be great...think Lance Storm for instance. Why? Because Vince didn't want to, or the board didn't want to.
From now on i watch and support the independent circuit exclusively.
I do believe thoe that WWE will suffer pain and misery and hope it implodes so we can have a rejuvenated wrestling scene. It has been clearly proven that one major company in control of most of the wrestling scene will destroy not only the talent, but destroy wrestling itself. I could keep on writing about this and other aspects of the wrestling scene but i'm tired. Should i keep this rant and make other entries? Is my hatred deep enough? I think it is.
I will never, EVER, watch a WWE event again. I'll still read the reports, sure, but i won't support the product.
