I know the Benoit case is long over but its been brought up again after an issue with hall of famer Verne Gagne.
It happened in Feb but I only just read about it. Basically Verne Gagne bodyslammed his 97 old fellow resident, fatally wounding the resident. No charges were issued due to his lack of memory of the incident due to dementia caused by head injuries received over his career, the same thing Benoit is supposed to have had when he killed his family and then himself.
I'm interested to see if WWE act as if Gagne never existed.

While in the abstract I'd say killing an elderly man is worse than killing a healthy adult woman (not that killing either is exactly a good thing), the difference is that Benoit killed his own family including a child. I think that's the issue with WWE and other organisations with a moratorium on Benoit. Plus Benoit is all over their title histories and Gagne is only in the Hall of Fame, he never even really performed for WWE in any notable capacity, so they wouldn't need to remove much anyway. Then again, WWE also appears to have a moratorium on both Randy Savage and Jeff Jarrett, and while TNA is pretty appalling, I don't think unleashing it on the world is quite as bad as killing someone, so you never know.
But really this is just another example of the failures of health care for the elderly. I'm not sure how it is in the USA, but in the UK the care assistants in that situation would somehow have to get Gagne off him without risking any harm to Gagne, meaning they can't physically stop him, which is ridiculous. My girlfriend works in a care home for those with dementia. Apparently it's the best such care home in North Wales, and among the better in the country, and it's still pretty dreadful. There's really nothing can be done for many of these people other than trying to make their lives slightly less horrific, which is mostly futile anyway. If you were a legend like Gagne would you really want your last days to be surrounded by people you don't know, doing things you can't remember, constantly feeling miserable for reasons you can't grasp... well, would anyone, never mind being a legend?
