Here's pretty much what the deal was.
1) Cobra won the title in a ten man tournament, and then proceeded to defend it against myself, Thor, and a few other people before he was forced to vacate it due to a match stipulation.
2) Arc then beat Jake Jones, Thor, and a few other people as well to win the Judgement Championship.
3) In a King-of-the-Ring style tournament, I win teh title in a great final match-up with Dennis Schultz.
4) This was probably one of the best times for the Judgement Championship. No because I was holding it, but because Cobra, Dennis, myself, Arc, Jake Jones, all of us were in contention for teh title at the time. This is what probably proved that, while Judgement was the last show created, it wasn't third rate.
5) After Arc and Dennis go at it for contention, at Judgement Day (Judgement's biggest PPV), I made Dennis Schultz tap out like, 15 times, in an ultimate submission match. Keep in mind, DS ended up becoming the first, and longest reigning CRF Submission champion.
6) This is where the belt makes its first dip. I vacate the title, just because. Why? So I can go to Carnage. It was a slap to the face of Judgement, saying "There's better competition over there, so you peons can go screw yourselves."
7) Cobra has a good reign again. However, he is fired from Judgement, and forced to drop the belt. Another blow.
8) Ice become the longest reigning Judgement champion, and brought some credibility back to the belt, beating former Carnage and Mayhem champions in the process. However, what REALLY screwed the belt over was that Ice pulled an Omega. He gave it up to go to Mayhem, explicitly stating that competition was too weak to handle him.
9) KWB? Matt Adams? The hell?
10) Now, no disrespect to Gary Howe, he's improved quite a bit. Personally, I still don't see him as World Championship material, but he did better than KWB did.
11) Now, Damian Williams. Your fist title match was your fourth match in CRF history. There was a time when you straight-up COULDN'T go for titles on your fourth week. Then, despite losing spectacularly, you somehow got another rematch? Meanwhile, there are other people (Magician, for instance) who have more history behind their names than you who are refused a shot simply because you want one? I remember every single time I failed to earn a title, I wasn't merely given another shot, I had to earn it. And so did everyone else. The fact that you didn't puts a blemish on your entire reign, and on the belt as well.
That's my 2 cents.
Some elaboration on the whole "shot earning" thing:
My first title shot was against Cobra for the Judgement belt. I won the Altitude Ladder tournament to get that shot. Cobra beat me. Did I ask for a rematch? Maybe, I don't remember. But regardless, I did not receive one. It was two whole more months before I found myself getting a shot at the title in the form of a tournament. Why did Arc and Dennis receive rematches? Because they were the champions, not the contenders.
To earn a shot at Jake Jones, I beat Vayne and two other people. Upon losing? Despite making Jake Jones quite a fantastic offer, I received no such rematch.
When going for the CRF Championship, despite having beaten The Champion, and the other two contenders earlier in the night in the same match, I failed to win the final match. Did I receive a rematch? No. I actually wasn't even involved in the next CRF Championship match.
Back in the day, you used to need to earn title shots. The only times when you didn't was if it was an IC title, or something. And even then you had to sometimes. Hell, even Matt Adams earned a shot or two.
These days, all of the show-specific championships are losing validity purely because it doesn't seem as though you need to earn a shot. This isn't just the Judgement title either. Mayhem and Carnage are just as guily. They're just given out merely because the title must be defended. Personally, I think this needs to change.
